FOCUS

All of us who are old enough to remember September 11, 2001, will never forget September 11, 2001. That evening President George W. Bush wrote these words in his journal: “Today was this generation’s Pearl Harbor.” And so began a new day in the USA that lingers to this day. (One example of this is how that prior to 91101, anyone was able to go straight to the gate in the terminal to greet their loved ones & friends as they deplaned. That will probably never happen again.)

Closer to home, it’s in our lives when tragedy hits & heartache arrives at the hands of someone else that we discover who we really are, who God really is & how horribly people can behave. It’s who God really is to which we must cling.

When tragedy hits home, we do well to remember that …

1. yes, while God allows it, it hurts His heart too.

God’s the one who decides & determines what the story is & how the story goes.

Genesis 6:5-8 / John 11:32-37

2. all that harms, harasses, hurts & hinders here is passing away.

No matter the struggle or heartache, God’s grace is enough.

Romans 16:20 2 Thessalonians 2:15-17 Revelation 21:1-6 (Job 42:12)

Making It Real

1] Have you considered this? How does it bring perspective to what God allows?

2] Will you ask God to give you eternal eyes for all of life’s blessings & battles?

Action Step

Think about the biggest punch(es) in the gut life has given you. While just

doing that brings the awareness of the pain again, ask God for His perspective

on it all & look for the ways He has & will be redeeming it all.
